Overview

The summer school is dedicated to PhD students and young post-doctoral researchers who are interested in developing knowledge in the area of active functional coatings and surfaces.

The main scope is preparation and advanced characterization of multifunctional surfaces with a special focus on active protective coatings and self-healing layers. The basic strategies and recent trends in design of functional surfaces via application of “smart” nanotechnologies will be addressed. Special focus will be also given to localized electrochemical techniques for understanding processes in confined defects as well as to analytical methods for analysis of interfaces.

Lectures presented by recognised specialists in the targeted topics will be accompanied by practical lab-sessions where showcases of development and characterization of active functional coatings will be addressed. The participants will be able to go through the full process from preparation of coatings to final characterization of the desired functionalities.

Invited Lectures

Mark Orazem

University of Florida
Distinguished Professor of Chemical Engineering

Mark Orazem is a recognized expert on impedance spectroscopy. He has offered both introductory and advanced short courses on the topic at annual meetings of The Electrochemical Society and at the Fuel Cell Seminar. Orazem is a Distinguished Professor of Chemical Engineering at the University of Florida, where he also holds the ExxonMobil Chemical Engineering Alumni term professorship. Orazem is also Adjunct Professor at the Beijing University of Chemical Technology. He obtained his BS and MS degrees from Kansas State University and his doctorate in 1983 from the University of California, Berkeley. Prof. Orazem is a Fellow of The Electrochemical Society and served for ten years as associate editor for the Journal of the Electrochemical Society. He served as president of the International Society of Electrochemistry. He has over 180 refereed publications and has co-authored, with Bernard Tribollet of the CNRS in Paris, a book on impedance spectroscopy, now in its second edition.

Full fee (420 Euros) includes:

Posters should have the A0 format (841 × 1189 mm).
